Nook is a private messenger built on two ideas: a PIN that opens a room nothing else in the app admits exists, and folders that keep everything else in order.
Free to use. An optional Pro plan raises the limits.
Room Key
Your PIN doesn't just unlock Nook — it decides which Nook you get. One PIN opens your everyday room. Another opens somewhere else entirely, with its own chats, its own folders, its own notifications, its own friends.
Nothing in the app hints that a second room exists: no locked door to notice, no greyed-out entry, no list of rooms to count. No server response mentions one either. A hidden room is invisible to everything except the PIN that opens it — including to a wrong PIN, which simply looks wrong rather than telling you that you nearly guessed something.
The trade is real, and it is the point: we store the PIN only as a hash, so we cannot recover it for you. Each room can hold eight single-use backup codes for exactly that day, or a recovery address of its own.
Folders
Swipeable folders across the top of your chats, the way Telegram does them — but per room, so a folder you make in one room never surfaces in another.
Fill a folder by hand, or by rule: every private chat, every group, everything you haven't muted. Add exceptions on top. Pin what matters to the top of each list, reorder them, hide "All" if you never use it. Each tab carries its own unread count.
The rest of it
No username search, no phone-number matching, no "people you may know". Someone reaches you because you showed them a code — one you can cap, expire or switch off.
Set a timer on a single message or on a whole conversation. The countdown starts when it's read, not when it's sent.
One message to whole folders, or a hand-picked list, or both — sent as ordinary private chats, de-duplicated, with anyone who blocked you quietly skipped.
Up to 50 people, or 200 on Pro. The owner can put every message on the same auto-delete clock, so the group tidies itself instead of becoming an archive nobody meant to keep.
A notification tells you something arrived, and at most who from — never what it says. Hidden rooms are silent unless you turn them on from inside.

Honestly
They're encrypted in transit, and the copy on your phone sits in an encrypted local database — but the copy on our servers is stored in a form we could read. Hidden rooms protect your conversations from someone holding your unlocked phone. They do not protect them from us, or from anyone who could lawfully compel us.
If what you need is protection from the operator of the service, Nook isn't the right tool yet. We'd rather say that here than let the word "private" imply otherwise. The privacy policy spells out exactly what is stored and for how long.
Plans
Nothing is ever deleted if a paid plan lapses — limits simply return to the free ones, and rooms past the free allowance become read-only rather than disappearing.
